Advent begins 29 Nov

Your kids think Christmas is a wishlist. Twenty-six days to change that.

One small door opens each morning from 29 November: a few lines of Scripture and one thing to do together. Every door your family does adds a piece to your 3D crib, until on Christmas Eve the baby arrives.

Every door opens with a passage of the Bible, quoted in full. Bethlehem at night, with the lamb from the shepherds' flock.

This is exactly how it works on your phone. Read the door, do it together, tick it, and watch what happens to the crib.

  • Light in the darkAfter dark, sit together in a room with every light off for one minute. Then switch on a single lamp and stay quiet a little longer. Ask each other how the room felt before the light came, and after.Isaiah 9:2 (9:1 in some Bibles)
  • A small green shootFind something small that is beginning to grow: a bud, a seed, a sprouting onion, a weed in a crack. Look closely together, read the verse, and talk about one small new thing each of you could start this month.Isaiah 11:1
  • Comfort someoneThink together of someone outside your home who is sad, ill or lonely right now. Make them a card from paper you already have: a child draws, a parent writes one kind sentence. Post it, or deliver it today.Isaiah 40:1

Questions

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, with nothing to download. On iPhone, open your link in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome and tap Install.

We have more than one child. Do we buy more than one?

No. One calendar covers the household: add up to six people by first name, and share one link with everyone who should tick. We never ask for a child's surname, birthday or photo.

Scripture or Spiritual?

Scripture opens every door with a passage of the Bible, quoted in full, and keeps the feasts of Advent. Spiritual tells the same story more gently: the same kind of small deeds, the Bible passage one tap away for anyone who wants it, and no doctrine. Both end on Christmas Eve with the Christmas story.

We are Catholic. Does it fit?

Yes. The Scripture edition is written for every Christian, and keeps the O Antiphons from 17 December. Turn on Catholic notes on your family page and seven feast days get one extra line: St Francis Xavier, the Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Gaudete Sunday and Christmas Mass among them.

What if we miss a day?

Every door that has opened stays there. Do it when you can, and its piece joins the crib then.

Do we have to do every door exactly as written?

No. Every door is an invitation, not a rule. Change it to suit your family, skip what does not fit, and keep private anything you would rather not share. Going to a service is always optional.

What happens after Christmas?

Your calendar and your finished crib stay open until 19 January. A Lent calendar is coming in February 2027.

Which Bible translation?

Verses and passages come from the World English Bible (British Edition), a modern translation in the public domain. Every passage a door mentions opens right inside the calendar, so nobody needs a Bible to hand.

Can I get my money back?

If the calendar does not work and we cannot fix it, yes: tell us within 7 days of buying and we refund the full price. Because it is delivered the moment you pay, we cannot refund a change of mind. Write to hello@slatehousestudio.in.
